COVID-19 Information and Updates
On 11th March 2020, the World Health Organisation declared COVID-19 (also known as Coronavirus) a pandemic.
The situation is changing on a daily basis, and SIRU will be working closely with ACT & SNSW Rugby Union to understand the information being put out by relevant government and health authorities. A lot of the information is taken from the NSW Office of Sport Website, click here to access.
Initial planning for the season to start in April was halted on 16th March 2020 when RugbyAU announced that all Rugby will be postponed including training, trial matches and competitions. The initial announcement put a hold until 1st May 2020. This was then extended until 1st June 2020 following further announcements.
After this period, decisions were left to State Member Unions on when to return to training, as some states were reducing restrictions faster than others.
Working off the advice of RugbyAU and relevant NSW Government Authorities, all Clubs were invited to return to training under strict guidelines on 1st June 2020. By 15th June 2020, the restrictions on these trainings eased slightly with group sizes increasing, but no intentional contact allowed.
1st July saw the return of contact training, and the announcement of the SIRU Senior Season returning on 18th July 2020, and the SIRU Junior Season returning on 25th July 2020.
Some important documents which have been shared with the clubs are listed below.
