YAfter many reviews, the Final 2020 SIRU Competition Draw has arrived! With some vast changes in terms of the competition structure for 2020, the draw has gone through a major makeover compared to recent seasons. In 2020 our Premier divisions (1st Grade Mens and Women's Xs) will include 9 teams; Albury, Griffith, Hay, Leeton, Reddies, Tumut, WAC, Wagga City and Waratahs. Our 2nd Grade competition will host eight of teams in 2020, with Deniliquin following Hay in the draw structure, and Leeton not entering a 2nd Grade team in 2020. With Hay and Deniliquin jumping up the grades in 2020, we will see only six teams in McMullen Cup, with three from Wagga (WAC, Wagga City and Waratahs) and three from the "Country" regions (Griffith, Leeton and Tumut). The General Competition Byes will occur on Public Holiday weekends including, Easter, ANZAC Day and Queen's Birthday. There are plans in place to have a competition round focussed on Indigenous acknowledgement involving all clubs, more details for this will come out closer to the season. In 1st Grade and Women's each team will play 16 games across the 18 rounds, whilst their club will see 2 Club Byes during the season. 2nd Grade will play 14 games across the 18 rounds, as they will face the same byes as above and when the Premier Grades and 3rd Grade teams play against Leeton. McMullen Cup teams will play 12 games across the season, their participants will certainly enjoy the additional weeks off, but will play two teams on an extra occasion possibly while the rest of the club has a bye. Finals will begin on the 29th August with the top four teams from each grade qualifying, and Grand Finals will be held on the 12th September with Championships for all four grades up for grabs at one location. Please see images below for the details of the draw for each grade. You can also find the draw in the "Schedule & Results" section of our website, and on Rugby Xplorer.

SIRU is glad to get the below dates and locations out so early prior to the later-than-usual competition start date of Term 2 in 2020.
During the SIRU Junior Council Meeting, all clubs agreed that the school holidays were tricky to negotiate with families often using this time to take a break. So the clubs agreed to start the competition in Term 2, with only the "Winter Holidays" being negotiated in 2020. The season will start with two Half Gala Days on 3rd and 17th May, followed by a Full Gala Day in Griffith on 31st May. With the growing number of teams and games each year, the clubs agreed to only host Full Gala Days at locations which were capable of hosting all games at (ideally) one ground. Then we move into another two Half Gala Days on the 14th and 28th June, then straight into a Full Gala Day in Wagga on the 5th July (first weekend of Winter School Holidays). The regular season closes out with three Half Gala Day on 26th July, 2nd and 16th August, before the Finals begin for those teams eligible in Wagga and Grenfell on consecutive weekends. Champions will be crowned in Grenfell on 30th August, and that will be the end of the Junior Season for another year. Full details are below, with how the clubs are going to be split at Half Gala Days to come in the next couple of weeks through your clubs!
